Missouri does not give a dog a free first bite. Under RSMo 273.036, when a dog bites someone who is lawfully where they are, without provocation, the owner is responsible whether or not the dog ever showed a hint of aggression before. Yet most people who are hurt by a dog still make decisions based on rules that no longer exist, or never did.
